This is a pixel art t-shirt in the literal sense. Each square in the flip-flops is a single cross stitch, so the stitches are the pixels.
The design starts as a drawing by our designer. Pixel Stitch rebuilds the stitched parts on a grid and turns them into a stitch map, with a symbol for each thread colour taken from their thread book. The collection uses four colours: blue, orange, white and a lemon yellow.
We screen print the beach scene in Karachi first, because a needle passes cleanly through a screen print where a heat transfer would tear. The artisan then sets a hoop over the flip-flops, lays dissolvable cloth printed with the stitch map on top, and works through both layers with a double thread. One wash dissolves the cloth and leaves the stitches in the cotton. Thread colour can shift slightly from one tee to the next, so no two are exactly alike.
